The LIP cohort had the privilege of participating in a private tour of the Blue Mile Tramway project, which is part of the Wollongong City Council’s overall upgrade of the Blue Mile.  Wollongong City Council is upgrading the shared path known as the ‘Tramway’ along the sea wall which spans approximately 500 metres between Belmore Basin and the North Beach Bathers Pavilion.
The Blue Mile Master Plan was developed in consultation with local residents as a long term project that encompasses a range of foreshore improvements to enhance this public space, increase use and visitation, and support the revitalisation and development of the city centre.
Work began on Monday 6 March 2017 and is expected to take up to 18 months depending on weather and tidal conditions at a cost of $10M.
Project Manager, Justin Kennedy explained to the group that The Continental Pool has stayed open throughout the project, and a temporary walkway has been installed so pedestrians can access the pool from Belmore Basin. The Gentlemen's Pool (rock pool north of the Continental Pool) is closed until the project's completion, as it's within the construction site.

Below is an artist’s impression of the completed project and a photo from the tour.

GOVERNANCE AND ETHICS MASTER CLASS

29/05/2017

On Saturday 20/5/17 LIP had the great pleasure of spending the day at UOW engaging in a session on Corporate Governance, Ethic’s and Risk Management by Ian Fargher.

Listening to Ian relate information back to real life stories was the highlight with so much knowledge/history of the Illawarra and beyond, it was incredible.

Ian took the group through what is the framework of Corporate Governance, the eight principles and recommendations, then we dip dived into audit & risk. The session was really interactive with each of us asking questions and relating back to our fields.

The way Ian delivered the session was interesting and we all got so much out of the day, at times going off track due to the interesting culture history of organisations. We were also very fortunate to have Graham Lancaster join us for the morning session and explain governance from his area of expertise which was appreciated.

Thank you to Ian for delivering an often dry topic and making it everything but.
