The Leadership Illawarra program was fortunate enough on Friday 1 December to spend the morning seeing and listening to the great work that IRT does for our community. Kicking off with a site visit to Flametree Dementia Care Project at Woonona, program participants were taken for a tour of the site with Care Manager Matt Coventry explaining some of the innovative initiatives that IRT have implemented to provide better care for its residents.
Following the site visit, program participants headed to IRT headquarters in Wollongong where department heads from IRT provided an insight into what they saw as the characteristics of great leaders. These included: Backing yourself; Surrounding yourself with good people; Hiring for attitude; Making your own decisions; Develop empathy, be authentic and sincere; Trust; Don’t be driven by ego, let your actions speak for themselves; Lead through your team; Listen to others; Walking the talk and understanding that leadership is a choice not a rank. The morning highlighted the excellent work IRT is doing within the community and how through good leadership, you are able to take a business from good to great. -Jenny Towers
